Meet The Team
Tony Merritt
Hi, I’m Tony and I have been a Clinical Psychologist for almost twenty-five years. For many years I worked with people with chronic pain, and that really drove my interest in helping people improve their sleep. In the last ten years I’ve increasingly focused on understanding sleep, and what makes it good and, well, not so good.
I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT-I, ACT, and mindfulness-based techniques to help clients improving their sleep and overall wellbeing. I am also really interested in how people can use nutrition and supplements together with psychological and behavioural approaches to improve their sleep. I find it deeply rewarding to see how much people’s lives improve when they sleep better.
Melissa Aji
Hi, I’m Melissa and I’m a Clinical Psychologist and research academic with a special interest in sleep and insomnia. My passion for sleep psychology began during my PhD, where I developed and evaluated treatments for adults with insomnia. Since then, I’ve worked in sleep clinics, published in leading sleep journals, and regularly present at conferences to contribute to and stay connected with the latest research.
Clinically, I draw on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based techniques. My style is warm, thoughtful, and grounded. I aim to create a space where clients feel heard and supported, while also focusing on practical and tangible strategies that lead to meaningful change.
I strive to support clients in finding a balance between actively working toward improving sleep whilst living a life that feels rich, purposeful, and aligned with what they care about most.
Elise Skinner
Hi, I’m Elise. I’m a Clinical Psychologist and have been interested in sleep and insomnia since completing two research theses on the topic. This of course gave me a taste of my own sleep difficulties. I have worked in both private practice and within the hospital healthcare system. In both settings, I have seen the impact that poor sleep can have on individuals’ mental and physical health. I strive to provide holistic treatment approaches that help my clients feel well in both their bodies and their minds.
In my work, I use a blend of CBT-Insomnia and ACT to support clients in improving their sleep and overall wellbeing. I commonly see clients with other co-occuring health and mental health concerns along side sleep difficulties. I believe that good sleep is not just about rest, but about restoring balance and connection in daily life.

Joel Cowling
Hi, I'm Joel and I completed my Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology & Neuroscience at the University of New South Wales. I then completed an Honours year and then a Master of Clinical Psychology at the Australian College of Applied Psychology.
I have several years of experience supporting people through mental health challenges. I have worked in private practice since 2021, working with chronic pain, sleep issues, personality disorders, anxiety, and depression. I also work as an embedded clinician with Transport NSW, largely working with critical incident exposure and PTSD, workplace stress, and relationship problems.
I primarily utilises Schema Mode Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to support clients in improving symptoms, including their sleep and overall well-being. I focus on improving sleep quality and other biological factors when considering treatment. I have a passion for working with individuals with relational trauma, including difficult child-parent relationships where needs were not adequately met in childhood. Joel is skilled at working with chronic pain and other health-related disorders, particularly as they often relate to psychological trauma.
I prioritises building a therapeutic relationship with my clients, so they feel safe and heard. I believe that improving sleep can open the door to broader changes in health and self-care.
